I know I’m not the only one that stands in front of their closet dumbfounded by what to wear, changing multiple times. Sometimes picking out my outfit takes longer than showering, doing my hair, and makeup. Even though I’m not going anywhere right now, I spoke with a StyldLife colleague, and we decided to book appointments with stylists to help prepare me with some fun outfits for when leaving the house becomes normal again. I called and booked with Mia Collins, a Styldlife fashion stylist.
Originally, I figured I could pick out stylish ensembles all on my own, but it was so much better with a stylist. Meeting with Mia brought a fresh set of eyes to my old clothes. I thought this was going to be easy for me, but it was even easier for her. I had never created outfits (with shoes included) so quickly!
We pieced together 5 outfits in 30 minutes, covering everything from occasion wear to everyday looks. If we spent the full 55 minutes together we might have had my whole wardrobe planned the rest of the year and well into the next. This experience was so fulfilling and made me feel like I was a fashion stylist myself.

Before the meeting, I prepared myself by taking out a few statement pieces, a variety of shirts, pants, dresses, and skirts in order to have a selection for us to work with. This made it so easy since she can’t reach directly into my closet.
Each look had a few layers that could even be interchangeable with other tops, cardigans, or accessories I had in my closet. This was helpful with the functionality of my closet since I probably will only be taking half my clothes when I move down to school.

Mia acknowledged that I will soon be entering the professional world so she wanted to focus on tailoring my outfits to be sophisticated while still highlighting my eclectic and fun pieces. We began pairing each outfit starting with the bottoms I would wear, and then building off of that.

LOOK ONE: Using a collared shirt as a blazer, paired with a graphic tee and statement jeans with red and blue sneakers. We imagined this outfit for going to a museum, a fun lunch with work colleagues, or any kind of art gallery.

LOOK TWO: Tank top, shorts, and cardigan to add more depth and flair, red and blue sneakers. Mia and I created this look for an outdoor picnic or grabbing coffee with friends.Add paragraph text here.

LOOK THREE: Satin midi skirt and cheetah cowl neck top, black flats with hearts. The midi skirt in this look elevates the blouse allowing you to wear this to dinner, an evening party, or even if you just want to feel fancy during the day.

LOOK FOUR: Plaid crop top, black/Blue blazer, corduroy culottes, black flats/heels. This edgy look combined so many different fabrics and prints, but because of the neutral colors, it works! The blazer also adds a level of sophistication which is fun with a crop top.

LOOK FIVE: Black dress, jeweled box purse, chunky boot sneakers. I love this outfit. Mia kind of pushed me to get out of my comfort zone by mixing and matching the dress with the sneakers and its actually one of the outfits I’m really looking forward to wearing.

LOOK SIX: Do you ever have clothing items that still have the tags on them? This chunky cardigan was that regrettable purchase until Mia styled my red bodysuit, jeans, and sneakers with it, showing me all the potential this oatmeal cozy sweater had to offer.

BONUS LOOK: Interview outfit: Vince Camuto dress with the previous blazer. We paired this super sweet dress with the blazer from earlier just to give me another interview-ready outfit.

Some key points Mia told me was to invest in a solid pair of jeans, a little black dress, a handbag and any articles of clothing that are universal in a solid wardrobe. She said one of her rules for fashion is that if her outfit is put together, her hair, makeup and nails must also follow suit. This is important even when we’re indoors because you never know how much joy freshly painted nails or some lip gloss will bring you.
To my surprise, this appointment not only brought me so much satisfaction with my closet, but it also improved my mood. This session with Mia got my creative juices flowing and made me want to start getting ready each morning.
If you think about it, the money you might spend on 5 new outfits definitely exceeds the price of a 55 minute styling session, so with StyldLife, you get more bang for your buck! Below are some of the looks we created.
This session was not only useful for re-purposing my old clothes and making them feel new again, but also just taking some time to do something nice for myself.
Thanks, Mia!
