Taylor Swift’s return to the stage with the highly coveted “Era’s Tour” is projected to become the first tour to gross $1 billion in ticket sales, most likely surpassing the $1.5 billion mark, according to a report by Fortune. The first United States leg of the tour, which concluded August 9th, 2023 at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, CA for its 27th show, had a whopping 43 songs on the set list plus two bonus surprise songs per night. Swift’s portion of the show lasted over 3 hours long.
While Swift’s long-awaited return to the spotlight made headlines, the fashion at the Eras Tour nearly stole the show. During her 3-hour set, Swift had sixteen costume changes, all corresponding to different eras of her music career. In addition to her multiple costume changes throughout the show, she also had different variations of each outfit. We’re breaking down all of her costumes and showing you our favorites!
Lover Era

Swift opens the concert with her 7th studio album and her first fully-owned album, Lover, wearing a custom Versace bodysuit adorned with sequins and gems. Her shoes are sparkly Christian Louboutin knee-high boots. (The red bottoms are a recurring theme for many eras!) She wears this ensemble for the first two songs of the era. Swift adds a bedazzled blazer on top of the bodysuit for the following two songs, “The Man” and “You Need to Calm Down,” before removing it for the final two songs of the Lover Era. Lover concludes with a beautiful performance of the 5th track of the album, “The Archer,” before disappearing for her first off-stage costume change.

Fearless Era

The Fearless Era made everyone nostalgic. For many of us Swifties (or even the casual T-Swift listener), the Fearless album was our introduction to the pop star’s music. She opens the set wearing a glittered fringed dress, a nod to the types of dresses she wore during this era in 2008. Sporting the same Louboutin knee-high boots, and accompanied by her trusty guitar, Swift performs three songs from her first re-recorded album. “Fearless,” “You Belong With Me,” and “Love Story,” her biggest hits from this album, surely got everyone up on their feet.
Our favorite:

Evermore Era

The third set of the night, which features a standing ovation from the crowd after her song “Champagne Problems,” takes us to an artistic set for her album Evermore. Swift wears a flowy, autumn hue dress for this entire portion of the show. She drapes a dark green, hooded cape, which makes its appearance during the single “Willow,” to complement the magical performance that precedes it.
Our favorite:

Reputation Era

There is only one outfit that Swift wore for all of her US shows for the Reputation set– a black bodysuit with red, bedazzled snakes stitched on it. The Reputation jumpsuit being the only costume for the entire tour (so far!) is iconic. Her jumpsuit, with one side covering her entire leg and the other, cut off into shorts, is what Swift wears for the four-song, dramatic, and show-stopping set.
Speak Now Era

Prior to the release of her re-recording of her junior album, Speak Now, there was only one song for this set. After the release of “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” “Enchanted” was joined by the addition of “Long Live” (a fan favorite!) to the setlist. To signify this era, Swift emerges from the main stage wearing what can only be described as a princess ball gown dress. There were many variations of the Speak Now dress over the course of the tour, but the dresses had a few things in common – glamour, whimsical, and sparkles.

Red Era

Opening the Red era, Swift comes out in a re-imagined version of her outfit from the “22” music video from 2012. It’s a tradition for Swift to strut down the long runway of her stage and hand her hat to a deserving fan at the end of it. After the song, Swift takes off the shirt to reveal a red and black bedazzled one-piece ensemble paired with Louboutin loafers. After singing two singles from the album, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” and “I Knew You Were Trouble,” she ends the set with a 10-minute performance of “All Too Well.” During this acoustic set, she wears a long coat that matches her one-piece and is accompanied by a red guitar and the crowd sings along.
Our favorite:

Folklore Era

The Folklore set is mysterious, woodsy, and ethereal. The crowd is transported to a made-up world and joins Swift for a whirlwind romantic and heartbreaking story. With a total of seven songs on the set list, Swift wears a dramatic, long, flowy dress that captures the vibe of the music. It’s giving wandering through the forest after leaving your cabin in the woods (in the least scary way possible).
Our favorite:

1989 Era

Swift’s official launch into the pop genre was all thanks to her 1989 album. She gives us five, fan-favorite songs during this set while wearing a monochrome, two-piece, fringe set and matching sparkly boots. There are so many colors of the 1989 outfits that Swift brought out on this leg of the tour. But it gave pop star in every shade!
Our favorite:

Surprise Songs

Swift gave fans a surprise at every concert by incorporating two surprise songs on each night of the tour. Quickly following the 1989 era, Swift's backup dancers help her get into her ensemble for the second-to-last set of the night. She calls this “the acoustic set” where she performs one song only on the guitar and another only on the piano. The dress, a crisscross flowy dress placed on top of her 1989 outfit, comes in four colors. Swifties (Taylor Swift fans) even started the “yellow dress” lore, in which Swift plays fan-favorite songs that fans are devastated about not being able to hear live. Swift originally mentioned that each night would have a different surprise song, though she broke this rule a few times. Swift exits the stage by doing a stage dive to below the stage.

Midnights Era

The three-and-a-half-hour-long concert comes to an end with the Midnights Era, Swift’s most recent, album that is not a re-record. She starts the set with a flirty performance of “Lavender Haze” wearing an oversized sparkly t-shirt, knee-high black Louboutin boots, and a shaggy lavender jacket. After taking off the jacket during the bridge of “Lavender Haze,” she performs the viral song “Anti-Hero,” in the oversized shirt and half of “Midnight Rain.” During the break of “Midnight Rain,” her backup dancers hide her behind a wall of black umbrellas, and she emerges in a sparkly, fringe bodysuit that she wears for the rest of the show. Four songs follow the final outfit reveal.
