Last weekend, my parents celebrated their 25th anniversary and decided to renew their vows. They first got married in 2011 at a small notary, but they’ve always wanted to have a wedding with a grand reception. What’s a better time to get married (again!) than their silver year? On June 17, 2022, my parents became Mr. and Mrs. Suavillo for the second time.
I joined StyldLife back in 2020. Everyone seemed to pick up a small hobby during the beginning of the pandemic, myself included, and my hobby of choice was makeup. The problem was, I had no idea where to start. StyldLife came to the rescue.
I booked an appointment with one of our stylists at the time, Janelle Black, to get some pointers on all things fashion. From clothes to makeup to hair, Janelle helped me tremendously as I tried to find my own style. The styling went smoothly, but the part of the session I was most nervous about was coming up: makeup.
Thankfully, Janelle was patient and willing to guide me step by step as I tried to figure out what color palette matches my undertones and skin combination. She gave me tips on how to blend my eyeshadow properly, how to apply foundation, and tricks on how to get my false eyelashes on quickly and accurately. By the end of our session, I felt like I was a pro.
Fast-forward to 2022; as I was running around taking care of my Maid of Honor duties, I didn’t realize I was running out of time to get ready myself. I got my hair done by the professional stylist my mom hired, but there wouldn’t be enough time for the makeup artist to do my makeup. After panicking for a solid ten minutes, I had a brilliant idea. I can do my own makeup.
I quickly grabbed my small travel makeup kit and got to work. I thought about the tips Janelle taught me from a few years ago. Since then, I employ them in my daily makeup routine. I chose colors that complimented my dress, made sure my makeup was going to stay put for the entire day, and that I was comfortable and confident in my final look.
The final look turned out so gorgeous! In fact, it looked so great I ended up doing the flower girls’ makeup, too! My younger cousins weren’t originally going to wear makeup for the event, but after seeing how mine turned out, they were begging me to do theirs as well. I was able to do my makeup and the other two girls’ looks while still having a few minutes to spare. I was so excited we were able to make it to the pre-wedding photoshoot on time.

None of this would’ve been possible if I didn’t have my styling session with Janelle Black two years ago. That’s the great thing about StyldLife. The advice and tips you learn from renowned celebrity stylists doesn’t expire after your event or session is over. You learn life-long makeup, fashion, skincare, and hair tips you can use in the future. I loved my session with Janelle Black because she helped me feel confident trying something out of my comfort zone, gave me the skills to do makeup on my own, and saved me from not being ready on my parents’ special day.
