This year’s Primetime Emmy awards allowed television’s biggest stars to shine bright on the red carpet. While some of our favorite shows didn’t take home the crown— Netflix’s The Crown was a big winner this year, winning 7 Emmy awards in total. StyldLife wanted to give out our own awards for the most outstanding looks on the carpet. Welcome to StyldLife Superlatives!

Most Daring: Emma Corrin and Issa Rae
Emma Corrin’s Miu Miu ensemble caused major discourse on social media platforms. The yellow-beige column dress was paired with matching fingerless gloves and a headpiece similar to the 20s Cloche hat. Most people are split in the middle, with half saying that her look was high-fashion and chic, while others said that her look simply didn’t work. The Mercury News even released an article stating that her look may go down as one of the worst looks in history along with Bjork’s swan dress in 2001. Where do you stand in this debate?
Emmy nominated actress Issa Rae wore a sparkling, sheer dress made of chain-like fabric. It looked vaguely like Rihanna’s iconic Swarovski crystals dress from the 2014 CFDA awards. Rae’s makeup for the night was done by Joanne Simkin, who featured Rae on Allure’s Instagram account, stating that the makeup look would consist of e.l.f products under $15 that went viral on Tiktok. What really set Rae’s look apart was her choice of accessory— icy grillz. The 22-karat white gold and diamond grillz were crafted by Scotty, who is well-known in the industry for making these unique pieces.

Most Dramatic: Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicole Byer
Anya Taylor-Joy is quickly becoming a household name with her outstanding performance in Peaky Blinders, Last Night in SoHo, and in The Queen’s Gambit, which she was nominated for. She debuted at the Emmy Awards wearing a backless, cream colored Dior gown, a nod to the 1964 movie “What a Way to Go.” What really elevated this look was the canary, yellow train that she added on top of her dress. The train was wrapped around her arms and sat on her waist, showing off the backless style of the main dress. Meanwhile, Nicole Byer wore a beautiful, purple, Christian Soriano gown. Her dress also featured a gorgeous train accented with ruffles to really make the dress pop. One can say that she really Nailed It!Both women have been praised for their dramatic red carpet looks. Anya Taylor-Joy was the topic of discussion on The Cut, where they noted “that it’s no surprise she looked stunning Sunday night for the 2021 Emmys.” The off-the-shoulder gown that Byer wore inspired PureWow to write a piece on her, stating that “[she] turned heads for all the right reasons.”

Best Dressed: Cynthia Erivo and Yara Shahidi
Cynthia Erivo and Yara Shahidi left everyone speechless at the red carpet. Erivo has been in the center of conversations and critiques about her past red carpet looks, like from the Venice Film Festival, but for the 2021 Emmy Awards, there’s no denying she looked incredible. The white, trumpet style Louis Vuitton gown was brought to life by the blue and green feather-like accents around the bottom of the dress. Erivo looked simple, yet so elegant as she walked down the red carpet.
Yara Shahidi wore a green vintage bouffant style dress on the carpet. She accompanied this look with pointed nude heels and her hair slicked back. It gave the perfect view for the gold accent necklace that sat on her collarbones and thick gold earrings. The accessories made up for the lack of design on her dress. It was the perfect balance of elegance and simplicity.
