With summer fast approaching, flights and hotels are getting booked. After the last few years of travel restrictions, many hot spot tourist locations are finally easing up their restrictions. We decided to help relieve some stress by teaching you how to pack smart for your summer vacation. Whether you’re a last-minute packer or a packer who plans two months in advance, here are some tips to guarantee a successful wardrobe for your summer getaway!
We talked to Andrea Serrano, one of our celebrity stylists, last year about packing for a dorm closet. She introduced us to “capsule wardrobes.” We’ll be using some of her tips from that call to pack smart for summer vacations.
1. Bring shoes you can dress up or dress down
Having a versatile shoe option is key. Shoes take up a lot of space in your luggage, so it’s good to have two to three pairs that can be used for any outfit. If you’re going to a place where you have to walk a lot, bring a pair of comfortable sneakers that can be worn for strolling down a park and formal enough to wear for a semi-casual dinner at a restaurant.
2. A White Button Down
The airy, flowy material of white button downs are all the rage right now. People love them because they can be dressed up with simple, yet elegant, accessories, but it can also be used to throw on top of any outfit if it gets a little chilly. A white button down gives a clean and crisp look when worn over any style.
3. Have a staple piece
If there’s a piece you’ve been dying to wear, now’s the time! You’ll want to take pictures while you’re on vacation, and what’s a better background to show off your new outfit than the gorgeous view from wherever you’re staying. Many of us have the mindset we have to have a reason to get dolled up, and now you do. You’re on vacation, that’s the only reason you need!
4. Bring things you can easily layer
Sometimes weather forecasts aren’t perfectly accurate, so you have to come prepared. Bring layerable clothes! You can be prepared for any type of weather without having to sacrifice your outfit. Bring a cute jacket or sweatshirt you can throw on after sunset. Being ready for any weather will help feel like you can take on anything during your vacation.
5. Separate accessories so they don’t get tangled up
There’s nothing worse than running late because you’re trying to detangle your necklaces. Put each necklace in a small Ziploc bag before putting it into your luggage to keep them separate. This also makes finding accessories easy. You can sort through all of your accessories efficiently with this technique.
