New York Fashion Week 2021 took place from September 8th to September 12th, Despite the ongoing pandemic, the event was a huge hit! The runways showcased a variety of looks, ranging from toned-down, yet fashionable neutrals, to brightly-colored, out of the box, blazing colors. The streetstyle for NYFW was just as anticipated as the actual show. Attendees rocked the streets of New York City with their stylish outfits. Many of the shows happened in outdoor settings to comply with the city’s Covid-19 restrictions. Several found a silver-lining during this trying time by using their masks as an added accessory to their entire look, which was required for indoor parts of the event.

The Michael Kors show premiered at the Tavern in Central Park and featured a collection of sparkly dresses and two piece sets. The background of the runway was decorated with fresh bouquets of flowers, creating a perfect ambiance for the Spring and Summer collection. The company live streamed their entire show and posted the show’s highlights on their Instagram. One of the standout looks debuted was a checkered pink skirt and blazer set with white details. Angolan model, Blesenya Minher, strutted down the runway wearing the set with a baby pink bralette under the blazer. Model Cara Taylor flaunted a chic fringe haircut while wearing a silver, metallic sheath dress detailed with floral lace. Gigi Hadid closed the show with an ankle length, halter cross over, hand-sequined black gown. The gown spoke for itself as Hadid modeled down the runway with only a bold, red lip and black pointed heels.

Jeremy Scott’s show for Moschino took a different, yet just as glamorous, approach to NYFW. His collection featured a “baby lady” theme, complete with accents from nursery rhymes. The collection, which debuted at Bryant Park, was filled with monochromatic pastels and adorable cartoons. “I tried to bring sunshine with the colors,” Scott revealed after the Moschino show. His goal was to mix humor with sex appeal in his this collection. Models Aaron Philip, Mika Schneider, and Stella Maxwell helped Scott bring his vision to life in the joyful runway show. Philip was wearing a yellow set with white scallop trims lining the bustier and blazer, detailed with animated children’s toys, like plastic keys and animal pins. Schneider walked down the runway wearing a two-piece cartoon ensemble, complete with purple fluffy sleeves. Maxwell sported a yellow lace top underneath a similar cartoon pattern, accessorized with a small lavender purse and pastel pink platform heels.

Guests like R&B singer Kehlani, influencer Jessica Wang from “Not Jess Fashion,” and actress Megan Fox, made the streets of NYC into their own runway as they went to shows. The streetstyle mimicked a lot of what was seen on the runways with neutrals or bold colors being the go-to. Fashionista compiled a lookbook of their top picks of NYFW’s street style.
