The 63rd GRAMMY Award show is happening tonight and one of StyldLife’s stylists, Jordan Deveix, is excited about all the fashion looks we’ll see this year. She's explaining what trends she expects to see and telling us the one celebrity she would love to style for the red carpet.
Q: What’s your favorite aspect of the show?
JD: The red carpet looks are always exciting to see. I also really love the makeup looks during the live performances as well. The Grammys are a great event to go a little wild and not be so traditional with the looks.
Q: Is there anyone you look forward to seeing for their fashion, makeup, or overall style?
JD: I’m always at the edge of my seat to see what Lady Gaga and her glam team come up with for her looks. I love how you really don’t know how she is going to show up. I think that it’s amazing she doesn’t feel like she has to present herself with just one type of look. Beyoncé can never do wrong. Her makeup is always so clean, classic, and timeless. Megan Thee Stallion is someone I feel is just this up-and-coming power for her style for sure.

I am also very excited to see what look Harry Styles decides to do. His look at the MET Gala a few years back was stunning and then his recent cover on Vogue is just iconic. I am really intrigued to see what he decides to do for the Grammys.

Q: Is there a trend you think we’ll see during the awards show?
JD: The Grammy looks are known for some of the more adventurous looks and I’m here for it. I think that we will see some “lived-in” makeup - nothing perfect, just perfectly smudged and slightly out of place. If there is going to be an actual red carpet event taking place, I am sure we will be seeing some amazing custom face masks with just as amazing eye makeup and hairstyles.
Q: What are some past looks or trends from the Grammys that you love?
JD: I am going to be taking it way back, but Grace Jones from the 1983 Grammys is amazing! The outfit is total rock star and the makeup is fabulous! Not to mention the fact that the 80’s blush trend is having a nice comeback at the moment. Cardi B from 2019 is stunning. The dress… yes! The makeup is just so clean, classy, and perfect. It’s done so well while not competing with the statement that is the dress. I also love the colorful look that Taylor Swift arrived with for the 2016 Grammys. Her bold lip paired so well with her whole ensemble.

Q: Who do you think will wind up on Best Dressed lists? What kind of looks will we see on these lists?
JD: I’m sure stars like Beyoncé, Billy Porter, JLo and BTS will make it on the best-dressed list. As far as looks, there will of course be some classic and traditionally glamorous looks but I also think there will be some great looks to incorporate the face masks, and also androgynous looks. With makeup, on the red carpet, the eyes have the prize, but for the live performers, there will be some fun theatrical looks to be had, for sure.

Q: Do you look forward to seeing the red carpet or performance looks more than the other?
JD: I am very much looking forward to seeing both red carpet and performance looks, but I think I will be looking forward to the performance looks a little more. The red carpet will be littered with stunning outfits and face masks but a live performance is one of the few ok times in this COVID world we’re living in where we will be able to see the artists whole face, which means we will be able to see a makeup look for the entire face, from chin to brow.
Q: What if any is your favorite thing to see in performance looks?
JD: The fun and the fact that there are no rules, just drama and theatre. The performers usually tailor their look to the song they’re playing to help with the story or they just go 100% rock star and just have a magical makeup moment.

Q: What color do you think will dominate the carpet this season?
JD: I think we are going to be seeing some neutrals as well as warm colors like burnt orange, yellows, and reds this year.
Q: Do you think any celebrities will coordinate their masks if they’re wearing them or possibly wear outfits that have one built-in or be designed to cover their faces?
JD: Billy Eilish was actually ahead of the curve last year when she wore a mask to the 2020 Grammys. For sure there will be mask coordination with outfits. I can see amazing bejeweled gowns flowing down the runway with matching face masks or a studded mask to go with an avant-garde outfit.

Q: Is there anyone you wished you could style on the red carpet?
JD: I have to pick just one?! I volunteer to be on Lady Gaga’s glam squad. As I mentioned earlier, her unpredictability in her looks is what makes it so fascinating and I would love to be a part of that team that helps her figure out what her look will be (and be that makeup artist to execute that look for her.)

Q: Is there anyone who might not usually be on Best Dressed lists but you think they’ll surprise everyone this year?
JD: I think we’ll have our usual best dressers show up. I think maybe Fiona Apple may make a surprise showing this year with a classy look.
If you’d like Jordan to style you, you can make an appointment with her through StyldLife.
