“Confidence is your best accessory, but authenticity is your superpower.”
One of our celebrity stylists, Ali Levine, recently styled a StyldLife client, Monica, for a photoshoot to launch her new private practice. Monica is a first-time client, and she was nervous coming into her first styling session. By the end of the session, Monica came out feeling confident and comfortable in the four different outfit choices she and Ali came up with.
“I’m so stressed.”
One of the great things about StyldLife is that we take the stress of personal styling away by connecting clients with industry professionals. Monica has so much on her plate as she juggles opening her private practice, setting up a date and time for her headshots. There’s no need for her to stress over what she should wear to her shoot. Ali shared a great piece of advice: “Handle what’s in your space and trust the expert to handle the things you hired them to do. Don’t make yourself crazy for no reason.” We couldn’t have said it any better, Ali!
“I want to look natural, clean, and simple, but still presentable and trustworthy.”
Before her styling session with Ali, Monica sent over some notes on what she wanted to achieve for her session. Monica sent Ali a couple of staple pieces to build outfits around that she thought would convey how she wanted to present herself. Staple pieces are great because they give a base to work with. By adding in certain color palettes and accessories, it provides an avenue to show off personality in an outfit. Ali suggested pairing Monica’s gold buttoned white blazer with a pair of drop-down earrings Monica calls her “ shields.” “I wear this when I want to feel powerful.”
“Am I wearing it or is it wearing me?”
While accessories and pops of color are great, Ali shares a nugget of wisdom that really tied Monica’s look all together. The purpose of a headshot is to showcase Monica. Her outfit is important to show off her personality and her style, but it’s more important to find a balance so the outfit does not overpower the frame of the picture. The focus should be on the person, not the clothes. Finding that balance allows Monica to achieve her goal of looking professional while still adding in a touch of what makes her unique through fashion.
We asked Monica about how her StyldLife session with Ali went. Here’s what she had to say:
“This was great! I was so nervous, but it was truly more like a conversation than an intimidating “professional stylist” type thing. She was knowledgeable and answered questions I didn’t know I had!”
